Dr Mohamed Fathy Saoud

Dr Saoud was appointed President of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development(QF) in November 2007. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2003 and previously served as Higher Education Advisor from 1997 to 2007, when he participated in the planning and development of QF’s Education City.

He led discussions that resulted into agreements with Weil Cornell University in 2001, Virginia Commonwealth, Texas A&M, Carnegie Mellon and Georgetown Universities to establish for the first time overseas branch campuses in QF’s Education City. Dr. Saoud participated in the initial planning of Rand Qatar Public Policy Institute, Science and Technology Park (QSTP) and Qatar National Research Fund together with a major project for reforming kindergarten to grade 12 Schooling in Qatar. He has also been engaged in establishing the Qatar campus of the College of North Atlantic and University of Calgary. Dr Saoud is the Vice Chairperson of the Board of Governors and Chair the Executive Committee of Sidra Medical and Research Center.

Dr Saoud graduated with an Honors degree in 1959 from Ain Shams University in Cairo Egypt and earned a Ph.D. degree from the London School of Tropical Medicine, London University in 1965. He started his academic career as Senior Lecturer until he became the Professor of Parasitology in 1977. He became the founding Dean of Science at the University of Qatar in 1978. During his research career, Dr Saoud established a school in Medical and Animal Parasitology in Egypt, Sudan and Qatar; that included more than 30 MS and Ph.D. students.
