A beacon of excellence
Channeling growth into projects that enrich the social fabric of Qatar through the three pillars of education, research and community development is the principle that lies at the heart of the QF mission. One project that perhaps most perfectly incorporates all three pillars is Sidra Medical and Research Center, a state-of-the-art facility that will not only provide world-class healthcare but will also significantly enhance Qatar’s scientific and
educational capacity.
Scheduled to open at the end of 2012, Sidra will be equipped with a total of 70 integrated IT systems for tracking patient care, making it the first all-digital medical facility in the region.
In addition to delivering excellence in patient care, Sidra’s core aims are to provide world-class training to medical students, and facilities for pursuing groundbreaking biomedical research. The center’s specialty will be in care for women and children.
With generous financial backing from QF, Sidra is positioned to invest in the best equipment available and pursue its goal of becoming a beacon of learning, discovery and exceptional care.
Sidra, which is the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, and Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of QF and the Sidra Board of Governors, will have about 400 patient beds, with the capacity for that number to rise to 550 beds at a later stage.
The seven-storey building lies next to Qatar National Convention Centre on the north side of the QF estate and is currently under construction, supervised by QF’s Capital Projects Directorate.
